Walter G. Alton, Jr., formed Walter G. Alton, Jr., Esq. to give highly personalized attention to the prosecution of serious personal injury cases, having been in the personal injury field since 1966. He began his career defending physicians in medical malpractice cases as a trial attorney. In 1985, he became a partner in a firm representing injured plaintiffs in all types of personal injury matters. He has been involved in the prosecution and trial of diverse types of personal injury cases, ranging from assault and battery, highway design, and construction accidents to complicated medical malpractice actions. Mr. Alton has extensive trial experience prosecuting all types of medical malpractice, negligence and accident cases involving serious injuries, paralysis, brain damage and wrongful death.
Mr. Alton graduated from Yale University in 1963. His personality and interest in people led him to want to be a trial lawyer so, after he graduated from Columbia Law School in 1966, he joined Martin, Clearwater, and Bell, a prominent malpractice defense trial firm for physicians. It was there he honed his trial skills, understanding of medicine, and developed a special rapport with doctors. He learned how they think and what values they hold strongly. He even wrote a book for them, Malpractice: A Trial Lawyer's Advice for Physicians (How to Avoid, How to Win), Little, Brown; 1977.
His unique understanding of physicians continues to serve him as a plaintiff's attorney. Because he is able to appeal to their value system, he can persuade the most highly regarded doctors, who ordinarily would not come to court, to testify on behalf of his clients. This understanding also is invaluable when it comes to cross-examination of physicians who testify against his clients.
Mr. Alton has been awarded the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory's highest accolade: an AV® rating, is listed in Martindale-Hubbell's Registry of Preeminant Attorneys in the Categories of Personal Injury and Medical Malpractice, and has been included in the book "Best Lawyers in America".
